Overall, keep in mind that when you decrease the number of reps per set, you need to increase the load you’re lifting. If you can’t do the minimum number of reps, choose a lighter weight. When it feels too easy as if you could continue doing reps, challenge your muscles again by adding weight or using a stronger resistance band.

If you’re currently not exercising at all, 30 minutes a day of intense activity five days a week may be daunting. For instance, you might schedule an upper-body pull day, an upper-body push day, a hip-dominant day, and a rotational day into the mix.

Next, determine what your goals are, such as muscle building or weight loss, and search online for an exercise regimen that fits those goals. You can use your own bodyweight also for some great hard work. The most straightforward method is to add weight.

Start with shorter, less vigorous activities and gradually increase over time until your exercise routine becomes a habit. But one of the most common barriers is simply a lack of time.

That’s because, if you are going to perform three or fewer workouts per week, it’s most effective to make every workout a total-body one, Tumminello says. Rather than splitting workouts based on body parts, exercise physiologist Pete McCall, C.S.C.S., recommends dividing them according to movement type.

Instead, a good beginner workout plan is to try starting with two workouts a week. Don’t do too much too soon – It is common for beginner exercisers to start running before implementing a walking program or lifting heavier weights versus starting with lighter weights. If you’re just starting out, find a beginner workout.
